The large painting “Masquerade Conundrum” is about relationships. The idea of symbolic meanings were a tradition in some Renaissance and Medieval paintings therefore the choice of style. The Jan Van Eyck Painting on “Marriage” was an inspiration. Many of the symbols in this painting are lost to us today but they fascinate me. My painting also is symbolic. The couple is playing a life altering game that change their relationship as a couple because the don’t reveal themselves. They are prepared with many masks and the game is ongoing as every surface in the painting is a chessboard. The perspective takes you back into the painting but also takes you nowhere. The thing they are searching for which must be love or a connection is elusive but in sight however, they must drop their masks to grasp it. There you have it. Kathie

If you missed the “Art of Wine” on Saturday evening you missed a great time! It’s an annual event so mark your calendar for next July.
Here are a few images of from the event, as well as two more images of artistic bottles created by our ArtSplash Gallery artists!
The gallery was open and ready for visitors the entire evening, here it is before the crowds arrived: You can see Maurice Turcotte’s beautifully patriotic painting by the door, waiting to greet the visitors!
On the sidewalk to the left of the gallery Nancy Keating had a display of mosaic creations and information about her mosaic classes, and Lynne Medsker had small mixed media art and mandalas on display along with her class information.
There were many visitors during the evening! Some were shopping, some were just looking and several signed up for information about classes. Of course there were some that were just to cute not to take pictures of, even if they weren’t old enough to shop or take classes!!
As the patrons walked up & down the streets they were entertained with live music and the shop windows were dotted with the beautifully decorated wine bottles & glasses.
What a lovely evening!
Coming up this weekend, in addition to the monthly gallery walk, the annual “Art of Wine” event will be held in the Arts & Design District in downtown Carmel, Indiana. All the details about the event can be found HERE. Some galleries and shops are bringing The Art of Wine to the district by displaying giant, custom-designed wine bottles and glasses transformed by local artists – like these pieces made by ArtSplash artists Nancy Keating & Lynne Medsker. Look for images from our artists Robert Shade & Valentina Shvyrkova in an upcoming post!
July brings a special show to our main gallery area. ArtSplash’s Maurice Turcotte has been creating many new works of art to share with you! An excellent pastel artist he has works of still life, countryside scenes and barns on display (and, of course, available for purchase) along with a selection of oil painting images. His oil paintings range from farm & barn scenes, patriotic work and, most recently, he has returned to abstract painting. Eighteen pieces of Maurices fabulous work are on display this month!
Maurice will be in the gallery to talk with you during the monthly gallery walk, this month being held on Saturday, July 14th, from 5 to 10 p.m. You can learn more about the gallery walk, as well as see more of Maurice’s work by watching this interview that was aired on Fox59 earlier in the week. (Click here for video) Just to make the evening more fun, it’s also the annual “Art of Wine” celebration that day! More details about that event coming soon!
